The City of Menomonie is accepting applications for the position of Police Chief. Summary of Applicant Qualifications The City of Menomonie is currently accepting applications for the position of Police Chief. The Menomonie Police Department is a progressive police department that is located in the City of Menomonie (pop. +23,000 with UW-Stout) in western Wisconsin. The Department has 28 sworn officers along with a civilian support staff. Qualifications (partial listing): Prior experience in community policing, budgeting, investigation, community relations and personnel management. A bachelor's degree from an accredited College/University majoring in business, public administration, criminal justice or a closely related field is required. A master's degree and/or graduation from the FBI National Academy, Northwestern University, Southern Police Institute or similar law enforcement leadership institution is preferred. A minimum of ten years of progressively responsible law enforcement experience with a minimum of five years in a command position, a valid state driver's license and eligibility for WI-LESB certification and attaining such certification within one year after appointment is required. The successful candidate will need to establish permanent residence in the Menomonie city limits within 6 months of appointment to the position. A background check and drug screening will be required. Salary range is $61,404 - $78,360 DOQ, plus benefits. Summary of Applicant Qualifications The Menomonie Police Department is currently accepting applications to establish an eligibility list for the position of Patrol Officer. The Menomonie Police Department is a progressive police department that is located in the City of Menomonie (pop. +23,000 with UW-Stout) in western Wisconsin. The Department has 28 sworn officers along with a civilian support staff. As of December 31, 2008, qualified applicants must be at least 21 years of age, US Citizen, possess a valid driver's license, a minimum of an Associates Degree in Police Science or a related field or at least 60 fully accredited college level credits and be certified as a police officer by the Wisconsin Law Enforcement Standards Board. Applicants will also have good oral and written communication skills and be in excellent physical and mental condition with no past criminal convictions. Applicants will also have the ability to possess a firearm, be able to react quickly and effectively to stressful situations, be able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays, be able to perform all essential functions of this position, and have the ability to use all standard law enforcement equipment. Applicants will undergo a written exam, physical agility test, oral interviews, an extensive background investigation, psychological examination, and a medical and drug screening. The Menomonie Police Department offers a starting salary of $46,236, with regular raises after hire, along with further raises later on for longevity (2007-2009 contract). The Menomonie Police Department also offers an extensive benefits package including paid health and life insurance, Wisconsin Retirement Fund contributions paid by the City, paid vacation, paid holidays, paid sick leave, overtime and compensatory time off, FLEX plan benefits package, PEHP plan contributions, and income continuation insurance.
